Another big breakthrough for the wii.

A user of the Spanish-language Elotrolado forums has posted a tool that converts Wii isos between various PAL/NTSC video formats.

Wii Video Mode Changer

List of modes (version 1.0):
- Support for the following video modes:

- PAL interlaced. (PAL 576i)
- PAL60 interlaced. (PAL 480i)
- PAL60 progressive. (PAL 480p)
- NTSC interlaced. (NTSC 480i)
- NTSC progressive. (NTSC 480p)
- PAL non interlaced.
- PAL progressive.
- PAL60 non interlaced.
- NTSC non interlaced.
- MPAL interlaced.
- MPAL non interlaced.

- Linux version included.

usage:
1. extract the "main.dol" from your "SYSFILES" folder from your ISO's second partition.
2. Load the "main.dol into the executable and within a few seconds it will be fully patched.
3. Replace the "main.dol" in your iso with the newly patched version.

Keep in mind this is the first version and there could be bugs. At the moment this only works to convert NTSC to PAL.

NOTA: This only patches the video modes inside of the games executable. Patch your iso with regionfrii if you want to obtain true region free capabilities.

minor update to this thread incase anyone is interested, the current mid June 08 wii firmware update defeats the loophole that the trucha signer works on so any games patched or hacked with this method will stop working after the update.

1. Download Trucha Signer from here
2. Extract the rar file into a new folder, open that folder, double-click on wiikeyset.reg, click Yes then OK
3. Double-click on trucha.exe
4. Click "Select KeySet" in the menu and then click "Custom KeySet 1"
5. Click "Image" -> "Open ISO"
6. Navigate and find the ISO file and click Open (this is only tested with a clean/non-scrubbed iso from release #0522)
7. It should say "Image opened successfully". Click OK
8. Double-click on DISC (RNHE41) then on PARTITION (RNHE41) - the second one, then on SYSFILES
9. Right click on "main.dol" and click "Extract to file", select Desktop and click OK
10. Download Wii Video Mode Changer 1.0 from here
11. Extract wii-vmc_1.0.zip to a folder somewhere, open that folder
12. Now find "main.dol" on your desktop, grab it with the mouse and drag it over the wii-vmc.exe icon in the folder from the previous step
13. A DOS box will popup, type in 3<ENTER> (The option you want is PAL60 (progressive) (PAL 480p), if you want another video mode then type in that number)
14. After the DOS box closes, restore the Trucha Signer window that you minimized earlier, right click again on the same "main.dol" file and click "Replace"
15. Navigate to your Desktop, click the "main.dol" file and click Open
16. Right click on PARTITION (RELSAB) and click "Trucha Sign It!"
17. Right click on PARTITION (RNHE41) and click "Trucha Sign It!"
18. Close Trucha Signer and patch your ISO with RegionFrii to PAL region
18. That's it, you're done! Burn your ISO file with your favorite burning program (I use ImgBurn) and enjoy this excellent game.

Ive just follwed this guide (originally for NMH) when patching Naruto, gonna burn it in a mo and see if it worked. Apparently you dont need to sign the first partition as instructed in the guide.

what program would you advise to extract the main.dol file and to reinsert it/ rebuild the iso after cos ive tried isobuster and its not playing with the file it just cant find anything in there

trucha is dead after the june update, no way to do this hacking at all sadly. Imnot sure if you could wangle it with the homebrew channel installed but you cant install that after the june update either, if you have it on already it still works though.

ive been using the datel region free disk instead of messing about with this patcher, seems to work just as well although swapping can be a pain in the ass.

try the datel disk first, if that works then patching should too.

yeah, use the datel freeloader disk, it tends to have better compat, mario sluggers is marked red on the list, works fine with the freeloader, ive tried it myself.

BUT - Freeloader site says it's incompatible with Wii's that have already got 3.3 f/w on them (like mine has)

in that case, you need to install teh homebrew channel which I think is still possible with a revised version of the twilight hack.

I have Mario Super Sluggers NTSC iso. Can this program (or any other) convert this to play on a PAL Wii???

it will play straight off, region frii and brickblock it. a mate bought me a copy and it works fine and he knows nothing more than those 2 apps.
