Why do my downloads stop overnight?

Guy's - need a bit of help. I'm running an XP2200 AMD, 512ram, 64mbGforce graphics, BT ADSL internet connection (512kbps), with XP Pro. I am using programs such as soulseek/kazaa/bittorrent to download apps/music/progs etc. As the downloads are usually large in size I set it up to download over night, leaving the PC on. However, when I look at it the next morning the downloads are "hanging" and not downloading. The internet connection is still active, but the downloads just seem to stop working for whatever reason. They also appear to do it shortly after I go to bed (the percentages complete in the morning are very close to where they were in the evening making me think it does it early in the night).

do you think having a screen-saver could be the problem? or perhaps having my monitor turn off after 30mins?

when I close and restart the downloads in the morning they start up again no hassle.

    any ideas?

try checking your power saving options in control panel -> power options and also see if you have power saving turned on/off on your network card under power management (under network connections->local area connection->properties->Configure->power management)

sounds like the music/movie companies have tracked your IP address though the torrents and are using the open ports that Bit Torrent uses to hack your PC and render it useless........
or maybe you just have something like defrag scheduled to run at 2am that screws it up

think I like the first one better......
